IANUS x HERA Milani Mission

Oct 7, 2024

The IANUS cold gas propulsion system has successfully launched as part of the European Space Agency’s (ESA) HERA mission, Europe’s first planetary defense endeavor. The launch from Cape Canaveral on October 7, 2024, marks a significant milestone for T4i and its contribution to the global space industry.

After years of meticulous preparation, the HERA mission is now on its way to the Didymos binary asteroid system. The mission carries two CubeSats: MILANI, built by Tyvak International, and Juventas, from GomSpace Group.

The IANUS system is integrated into the MILANI CubeSat, where it will play a critical role. The propulsion system will enable the satellite to perform all planned proximity operations and make groundbreaking scientific measurements. This data is vital for understanding the asteroid’s composition and for informing future planetary defense strategies.
